Weather Blog: Wrapping up a warm and sunny November

Posted
and last updated

WISCONSIN — It's been a rather warm and sunny November for Southeast Wisconsin. Looking back at the month, we've seen more days than not with sunshine and above-average temperatures.

Looking specifically at temperatures - as of Saturday (11/28), there had been 21 days with warmer than average high temperatures and 22 nights with warmer than average lows.

Plenty of temperature records went down this month. Milwaukee broke daily high temperature records 6 days in a row (Nov. 6th-11th)! And a total of seven days this month we recorded highs in the 70s. Before now, there had never been more than four days in the 70s during November, setting another record.

Breaking down sky cover, there have been 23 days this month with either clear or partly cloudy skies. That means there have only been five days with cloudy skies. That is not typical for November! Southeast Wisconsin is normally pretty cloudy and grey in November, averaging about 19 cloudy days.

Through the 28th, Milwaukee's average November temperature ranks as the 4th warmest on record.

It has also been a drier than average month. As of 11/28, Milwaukee had recorded 1.86" of rain, 0.68" behind normal. Only a trace of snowfall was recorded on two separate days in Milwaukee. The average snowfall amount during November is 2.4".

Temperatures will trend cooler as we move into December with the week ahead featuring highs mainly in the 30s and lows in the 20s. The temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows a slight probability for above-average temperatures across Wisconsin in December.
