Experiments with Elissia: Making a lemon volcano

Posted
and last updated

For this super-simple experiment you will need the following supplies:

  • Lemons
  • Baking Soda
  • Food Coloring

To make your lemon volcano, first cut the lemon in half and then take the bottom of a spoon and poke the lemon to break up the juice bits.

Next, place a few drops of food coloring on the lemon.

Now time for the fun part- sprinkle some baking soda over the lemon and watch your volcano begin to fizz up.

The chemical reaction between the acidic lemon juice and baking soda base produce fizzy bubbles and carbon dioxide.
