High pressure keeps us dry overnight but some of the melting snow is keeping enough moisture in the air to create some patchy fog tonight with mostly cloudy skies in locations with no fog. Temperatures will be close to freezing overnight as a warm front edges closer to southeastern Wisconsin and Milwaukee. This will bring a few breaks in the clouds on Wednesday, making it the brightest day of the week so far with temperatures climbing into the mid-40s with a light south wind.
The main moisture from the warm front arrives late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, bringing widespread rain showers across the area. Rain continues through the day and ends in the evening hours as a potent cold front moves through, which may bring an isolated rumble of thunder with it. Most locations pick up a half an inch to an inch of rainfall with higher totals in the northwest. While temperatures may hit 50 degrees on Thursday, it will not feel like it as it will be rainy with winds gusting up to 35mph.
Cold air surges in behind the front on Thursday night with temperatures falling into the 20s, this could freeze some of the rain that fell on Thursday, creating some slippery spots for the Friday morning commute. Skies will be clearing on Friday but despite the return of the sunshine, it will be chilly with temperatures back into the mid-30s. The weekend looks to be a bit better with highs in the low 40s and partly cloudy skies for the gun-deer opener.
