MILWAUKEE — Two officers were injured and one man is in custody after an overnight crash on the city’s south side. The crash happened near Muskego and Rogers after police said a suspected drunk driver blew past a stop sign and slammed into a squad car just after 2 a.m. Friday.

“For me, it’s crazy because it’s telling me and confirming (for) me that overnight we’re not safe, either,” Lazandra Felicano said.

This time a reckless driver not only threatened Felicano's safety but also put the lives of two Milwaukee Police officers in jeopardy. Felicano said this is normal in her neighborhood.

"We have a few bars, one here and a few over there, so at night everyone’s running around,” she said.

The officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. The 31-year-old driver responsible is in custody. Alderman Bob Donovan, in an emotional response, said the penalties for the driver should be high.

“This SOB who struck these cops needs to go to jail for a long, long time for driving drunk," Donovan said.

Felicano said she and her neighbors have petitioned for speed bumps, and they’d like to see something more than just stop signs at this busy intersection. Donovan, however, doesn’t think it will help if people insist on driving recklessly.

“What’s going on is stupid people driving like maniacs, that’s what’s going on. It has nothing to do with this neighborhood or this intersection,” Donovan said.
