MILWAUKEE -- A busy bridge near downtown will close for than a month beginning Monday.
"I take this bridge like every day so it will definitely affect my commute times," Mariah Braddock said.
The Water Street Bridge connects the Third Ward and the Fifth Ward.
"I would just rather come here sometimes than use the highway," Diyeneira Camarena said.
Drivers can use the Broadway Avenue Bridge and 2nd Street Bridge. Traffic going north will be diverted off Water Street at the KK River Trail. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Erie.
"It's going to be like a little but stressful trying to figure out how to navigate differently," Robert Foster said.
The Department of Public Works said the center lock on the bridge will get an upgrade ultimately leading to less noise.
The Water Street Bridge will be closed through December 16, weather permitting.
