Preview
The Green Bay Packers are again going after their 14th world championship, this time in their 100th season of professional football.
How appropriate that the Chicago Bears come to town.
But it's not exactly the same Bears whom the Packers will face tonight.
They have a new coach in Matt Nagy with a new offensive system for quarterback Mitch Trubisky to run.
Their defensive scheme won't change with Vic Fangio running that side of the ball, but their talent in the front seven is dramatically improved after the trade for Khalil Mack - a trade that brings a necessity to "win now," as Nagy put it, due to the jettisoning of two first round draft picks to Oakland for the 2016 defensive player of the year - and the drafting of Roquan Smith.
Of course, the Packers have a new-look receiving corps with the departure of Jordy Nelson, the addition of Jimmy Graham and a deep roster of young wideouts.
Also, consider the new scheme from old-and-new-again offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, and from new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine with an old-and-new-again cornerback in Tramon Williams helping the Packers adjust to it.
This will be a very different-looking contest.
Stay tuned. This 100th season will be a wild and fun ride.
