For the rest of 2018, the National Football League will be keeping in place a controversial application of its updated roughing the passer rules.

The NFL sent this statement saying it is "reiterating its position on quarterback protection (in which) the (competition) committee determined there would be no changes to the point of emphasis approved this spring or to the rule, of which the body weight provision has been in place since 1999."

They also shared a video with that clarification.

The Packers' Clay Matthews has been penalized three times in late game situations this year for roughing the passer - twice-negating game-clinching defensive stops.
