Franklin swim and dive team seeking state title

When you build something sometimes you have to take a dive into the deep end.

"It's been a wild ride," Franklin Head Coach Ross Lennertz says.

Franklin's Jared Kleczka finished second at WIAA State last year. With school and pool records, he has the title in sight this year.

"This year I'm adding another really big dive," Kleczka said.

"It's not only awesome to watch as a coach, but it's awesome for the team," Ross Lennertz said. "I just knew he was going to be great since freshman year," Will Lennertz said.

And James Kostrzewa said, "Jared's an incredible diver. I think he can win state this year. Definitely."

Kleczka needs to look no farther than James Kostzrewa and Will Lennertz, two swimmers who helped Franklin win their first ever state swim title in the 200 free relay.

"I've been working hard this year, harder than I was last year," said Kostzrewa. "I'd like to place top three this year. I think it's doable."

"When you see another teammate do better, it boosts your morale," Will Lennertz said.

And for this team that wears black and gold, sometimes you have to be bold to earn gold.

"It would mean everything to me," Kleczka said. "That's been my goal since freshman year, after I finaled. I realized what I could do. Where I could be at, and I've thought about it ever since."
