Report: Badgers to offer long-term deal to Gard

Posted
A report says that the Wisconsin Badgers, who have had Greg Gard coach them from the brink of missing the NCAA Tournament to becoming a cinch to make it, will offer Gard a permanent head coaching job.

The Journal Sentinel reports that the school will offer a long-term deal to Gard. WTMJ's Doug Russell also cites a source saying the hiring is simply a formality.

He has seen the Badgers through a 13-5 stretch after a lackluster non-conference season which has grown into what is almost guaranteed to be the school's 18th straight NCAA Tournament bid.

Officially, the school can end the application process later this afternoon, with a starting period of March 8th, but the UW Board of Regents must officially approve the hiring.

Gard took over for the retiring Bo Ryan, who piloted the Badgers to 15 straight NCAA appearances and the last two Final Fours.
