As Yelich chases National League history, the league has named him Player of the Month for September.

Thanks partially to the Detroit Tigers' fear of facing the Brewers' Christian Yelich, he is now behind in the race to win the National League Triple Crown - but still has a chance.
Yelich has a huge lead in the batting average category, but is now one home run behind Manny Machado of the Los Angeles Dodgers (37 to Yelich's 36) and two RBI behind Javier Baez of the Cubs (111 to Yelich's 109) entering Monday's playoff game against the Cubs (11:30 a.m. on WTMJ).
Basically, a two-run home run for Yelich, no RBI for Baez in the same game and no home runs for Machado in the subsequent NL West playoff between the Dodgers and Rockies will mean at least a tie in the home run and RBI categories - which would lead to the first NL triple crown in 81 years.

The Milwaukee Brewers' Christian Yelich not only is leading the NL in batting average, as he has in recent days, but now he is within potential reach of the greatest achievement a position player can individually reach in the sport, the Triple Crown.

Yelich has not just the lead in average, but as of 9:30 p.m. CT Saturday, he took a tie for the lead in home runs with St. Louis' Matt Carpenter (36). Plus, he is now two runs batted in behind NL leader Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs (111 compared to Yelich's 109).
No MLB player has earned a Triple Crown since Miguel Cabrera of Detroit in 2012. In the National League, the wait has been 81 years - Joe Medwick of the 1937 St. Louis Cardinals.
Yelich has either one or two games left to earn that title, as his Brewers will play Detroit once on Sunday while Baez's Cubs face the Cardinals in a game that could decide the NL Central crown.
If the teams are tied after Sunday's play, Yelich's Brewers and Baez's Cubs will have a one-game playoff in Chicago on Monday, with those statistics counting for regular season stats - and Yelich's possible Triple Crown hopes.
