Milwaukee distillery launches 'L Flag Bourbon' statewide ahead of Brewers-Cubs series

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee distillery's bourbon inspired by one of the Brewers' greatest wins over the Chicago Cubs is now being sold statewide - just in time for this weekend's series between the two NL Central teams.

'L Flag Bourbon' was created back in April after Central Standard Distillery's co-founders attempted to donate to the Chicago Cubs charities in exchange for the giant 'L' flag that was flown over Wrigley Field when the Brewers won Game 163 to take first place in the division last season.

Flying the flag is a tradition after every game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cub's either fly a 'W' or 'L' flag above the stadium depending on whether they won or lost.

"After receiving a resounding 'no, not for any amount' reply, Central Standard made a donation to the Brewers Community Foundation instead and did what they do best: created a limited-run of small-batch L Flag Bourbon," a statement from the distillery reads. "That first-special bottling of 163 bottles sold out in minutes and fans from as far as Texas, Montana and even Hawaii reached out in an attempt to order a bottle. On Friday, the crazy-smooth L Flag Bourbon is coming to liquor, grocery and convenience stores across Wisconsin."

Central Standard is celebrating by surprising a few lucky fans with bottles signed by Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich at Central Standard’s 2nd Street Tasting Room, Friday at 11:00 a.m.

Three of the first 163 folks who buy L Flag Bourbon at the Union Room on Friday and three of the first 163 who buy on Saturday will score bottles signed by the reigning NL MVP, according to the company.

The Brewers take on the Cubs at 7:10 p.m. Friday.
