The Brewers are on an eight-game winning streak heading into their game against the Cubs in Chicago Thursday night, and another win would lead fans one step closer to free food.
George Webb has announced that it will stand by its "12 in a Row" prediction. This means free hamburgers for all hungry Milwaukee fans if the Brewers win 12 consecutive games.
Ryan Stamm, vice president of George Webb Restaurants, says everyone at George Webb will be cheering even harder these next four games. “We’re only four games away from rewarding the best fans in baseball with free hamburgers and know the team has what it takes to reach that elusive twelfth win,” he said.
The tradition unofficially began in the 1940s and was formalized in 1965. There has only been one time George Webb has had to follow through with this promotion. In 1987, the Brewers went on a 13-game winning streak, and the restaurant handed out nearly 170,000 free hamburgers.
Winning 12 in a row would mean sweeping a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs, and that would be quite a feat. The Brew Crew is already off to a slow 1-3 start against the Cubbies this season, and have a losing 10-13 record against the team going back to the start of last season.
