CLEVELAND -- Behind rookie QB Baker Mayfield, the Cleveland Browns won their first game of the 2018 season Thursday night over the New York Jets.
After a winless 2017 campaign, Browns fans finally have a reason to smile. Mayfield was fired up in his post-game press conference, and ended it with a statement that made Milwaukee Brewer fans smile ear-to-ear.
I'm not sure any @officialBBWAA were listening or watching @bakermayfield's post-game conference, but his message was pretty simple for them regarding the NL MVP.

"Christian Yelich for NL MVP" he said.
Yelich and Mayfield were workout partners in the offseason and still appear to be good friends. Yelich is making a great case for MVP of the National League, especially after hitting for his second cycle of the season on Monday against the Reds.
Of the nine cycles in Brewers history, Yelich is the owner of two of them. Only three players since 1900 have hit for multiple cycles in one season. Aaron Hill in 2012, George Herman (Babe Ruth) in 1931 and now Christian Yelich.
Yelich leads in batting average at .319 and is tied with Javier Baez with a .569 slugging percentage. According to most MLB insiders, the MVP race is between Yelich and Baez.

With less than two weeks left in the regular season, the MVP race and NL Central race continue to be the headlines in the baseball world.
