UPDATE: Brewers control division destiny after Cubs loss
Posted

Update, 2:31 p.m.

The Milwaukee Brewers finally control their destiny in the race to win the NL Central.

The Cardinals' 2-1 win over Chicago Saturday afternoon puts Milwaukee a half-game back, and the Brewers host Detroit Saturday night (5:35 p.m. on WTMJ).

A win makes them tied for the division lead.

No matter what happens, though, Sunday's game will have meaning in the division race.

Update: Saturday, 12:02 a.m.

The Brewers are still fighting after their crazy 6-5 win Friday night against Detroit. They remain one game behind Chicago, which takes the field in about 12 hours against St. Louis.

Click here for every possible scenario for remaining games Saturday and Sunday and all 16 possible outcomes.

UPDATE: Friday, 4:39 p.m.

The Chicago Cubs' win this afternoon means the odds are a bit longer for the Brewers to catch up and take the NL Central crown. The Cubs are now 1.5 games up on the Brewers.

Original story

The Milwaukee Brewers have clinched the postseason and a home wild card game at worst, but there's a bigger prize out there: The NL Central title.

The Brewers enter Friday one game behind the Chicago Cubs in that race. Milwaukee hosts Detroit in a three-game series, while the Cubs entertain the St. Louis Cardinals who are fighting for their wild card lives.

Chicago can clinch the division outright as early as Saturday. The earliest the Brewers can clinch is Sunday.

If the teams end the regular season tied, they will play a Monday division championship playoff in Chicago (the Cubs own home field for that game due to winning the season series).

The Brewers and Cubs play at about the same time Sunday. Chicago plays Friday and Saturday afternoon, while the Brewers play Friday and Saturday night.

WTMJ will broadcast every Brewers game this weekend.
