69-year-old driver Conrad Morgan wins at Slinger Speedway

Driver came back from a nasty injury last season

Conrad Morgan began his racing career 51 years ago, amazing in itself, but what he did last Sunday, and what he overcame, should impress you more.

To understand Morgan’s inspirational victory at Slinger Speedway on Sunday, you have to realize where the soon-to-be 69-year-old has been

“June 12 when I got hurt...and I didn't know for sure if I was gonna be able to race when the season came around.  I didn't do any racing last fall,” Morgan said.

Morgan is coming back from an injury a year ago after a bad crash. He dealt with a concussion as well as neck and back issues through the winter.

“I don't know for sure if it's blind determination or pure stupidity...but it's one or the other,” he said.

Now that he’s healthy, he wants to go out on his terms.

“That was one of the things that bothered me last summer and fall, was that I didn't want to stop racing because I got hurt…,” he said. “Then I wouldn't know if I could have done it or if I could have kept going or if I would have fell on my face.  But at least I've got that behind me now and I feel like I can still do it.”

And since he’s turning faster laps than ever, that might be a while.

“I feel like right now, that if my health stays with me I may race four or five more years...and I hope that I'm going to race competitively or I won't. I'll stop before it gets to that,” he said.
