DANE COUNTY -- A teenager from Shorewood was killed and four others were injured in a crash that closed some eastbound lanes of I-94 near Cottage Grove for more than three hours Sunday, authorities said.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said three cars were involved in the head-on collision. Just after 11 a.m., two cars traveling westbound lost control.
A Honda Pilot went through the median and crashed into a Toyota Highlander going eastbound. The Toyota Highlander had four passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
One of the passengers in the Toyota Highlander, a 17-year-old girl from Shorewood, was killed. Another 17-year-old girl who was in the Toyota Highlander has life-threatening injuries, a 23-year-old man from Shorewood and a 23-year-old girl from Manitowoc, Wisconsin has non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 42-year-old man from Madison, received non-life threatening injuries.
The names of the people involved are being withheld pending notification of family.
Three ambulances responded to the scene. A Med Flight helicopter was initially called but then canceled.
