OAK CREEK — The Amazon Fulfillment Center in Oak Creek is officially open for business and has employed around 1,500 people, with more positions still open, the tech conglomerate said Tuesday.
On Oct. 18, Amazon welcomed employees into the 640,000 square-foot facility for the first time.
“We’re thrilled to officially open our doors and join the Oak Creek community,” said Cody Voegerl, Amazon Oak Creek Director of Operations, in a statement.
Each employee has a starting wage of at least $15, and full-time employees have access to benefits like full medical, vision, and dental insurance.
Positions are still available at the new facility, Amazon says. To learn more about those positions and to apply, click here.
“Amazon is a great place to work with highly competitive pay, benefits from day one, and training programs for in-demand jobs. We’re proud of the great jobs we’re providing and the incredible staff we have on board,” said Voegerl.
In addition to jobs, Amazon also offers employees access to programs like Career Choice which will pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, even if the skills are not relevant to a job at Amazon.
Employees will also have an easy way to get to work thanks to the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS).
Back in September, MCTS announced a new bus route to the facility called "Amazon-Oak Creek."
The route began operations on Oct. 11 between the intersections of North 35th Street and West Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee and South 13th Street and West Ryan Road in Oak Creek.
The route will operate seven days a week.
