Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews welcomed a baby girl on Feb. 20! The proud new parents announced that their first child, Sterling Skye Mahomes, entered the world as a happy, healthy, 6-pound, 11-ounce bundle of joy.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his fiancee shared the exciting news of the birth of their daughter on their social media accounts with a candid shot of the family. The picture is a close-up of mom and dad’s hands, with a tiny hand wrapped around her daddy’s finger. Mom is wearing a gorgeous necklace that shows off their little girl’s first name.

Mahomes and Matthews got engaged in September 2020, but they’ve been dating since their high school days. Less than a month after announcing their engagement, they gave fans more good news by sharing they were going to be parents in early 2021.

“Just taking a small detour to the wedding,” Matthews posted on Twitter.

Matthews, a former professional soccer player, is now a fitness trainer. She’s been posted clips of workouts showing off her baby bump on Instagram, and it looks as though she was feeling good in the final weeks of her pregnancy.

The arrival of the baby girl lit up social media, where the newborn quickly became a trending topic on Twitter. Congratulations poured in for the family, including plenty of love from Kansas City.

Kansas City’s Union Station created a lovely gift for baby Sterling. A display of pretty pink-and-white lights adorned the building to wish the new family “many happy years together in KC.”

Mahomes was quick to show his appreciation to his team’s hometown on Twitter, writing, “Love this city.”

Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce gave a shoutout to the new mom and said he is eager to meet the newest member of the family.

Another teammate, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr., asked the quarterback and his fiancee if he could help out with the baby ASAP, writing, “Can I babysit.”

Mahomes’ football career has kept him busy in recent months — he just played in his second Super Bowl, on Feb. 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, his mind has been on fatherhood. The day after his team’s loss in the big game, he told reporters one of his biggest goals for the offseason was to prepare for fatherhood.

“I’ve got to work on becoming a better dad even though I haven’t become one yet,” he said, according to ESPN.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We know who’s the MVP of the family now!
