On Greenfield, in West Allis, there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. But there's only one spot to start your morning off right, and that's at Urban Joe.
Whether you like it hot or iced, Urban Joe has a coffee waiting for you, plus a snack.
"Fresh paninis, wraps, salads, really quick convenient lunch stuff that you can grab and go," says Curtis Maldonado, operator of Urban Joe.
For Curtis, who runs Urban Joe's day-to-day operations, the cafe's visitors are more than customers.
"It's more than just this generic exchange like I said, we care about these people," says Curtis.
So when COVID-19 shut the doors, Curtis made sure customers stayed healthy.
"We were doing free sack lunches for kids and getting anonymous financial donations, and people were willing to help us box lunches and just come together as a community," says Curtis.
Now that the public is allowed to dine in again, that hasn't changed.
"We're still staging everything out and keeping our distance. We are running all our take out from here and our dine-in over there so everyone stays separate," says Curtis. "This is as much theirs as it is mine, or yours, or Joe's. Just like a family when times are tough you come together."
Urban Joe has changed their hours through the pandemic and is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm.
