WEST ALLIS — Sammy's Taste of Chicago gives you exactly what the name advertises. It's a little bit of the Windy City right here in West Allis.
"It should make you feel like you're in Chicago," says owner Sammy Bohringer. "It's just like what Chicago has, all the Chicago dog places on all of the corners. But the good thing in Milwaukee is we're only one of the kind."

Bohringer opened his place up back in 1989 and he decided to close it 100 percent with no service for 35 days because of the pandemic.
"For the most part, I think most of the people are pretty comfortable because they realize that we're trying our hardest to keep people socially distanced and keeping the place clean but I think it's a welcome relief to them that we are open and we're trying to do things as normal as possible under the circumstances."
And that line of people you usually see here is for his good-tasting food.
"It's National Hot Dog day and Chicago style hot dogs are probably the most popular thing, but the Italian Beef is very popular," Bohringer says. "We sell probably about as many Italian Beef's as we do hot dogs but today is gonna be hot dog day. It's the mustard, relish, peppers, tomatoes, pickles, onions all on a sesame bun with a little celery salt on top."
