MILWAUKEE — Sal's Pizza has been on Oakland Avenue for about six years, but it has New York roots.

"He started his first pizza shop in Brooklyn. That was back in 1977. He ended up coming over to Wisconsin to Cedarburg maybe about 15, 20 years ago," said Sal's Pizza manager, Ian Tousey. "He ran the shop there a little bit and then maybe after about six or seven years this building opened up and he wanted to bring some pizza over to East Side."

Because of the pandemic, the dining room is closed for now. You can come in and pick up your pizza to go or you can eat it outside on the patio.

"We do have seating available outside if people do want to eat here," Tousey says. "We want to keep people kind of separated and just keep everybody safe."

They're known for their New York Style thin-sliced pizza, which is in high demand.

"Our Spinach Feta Pie, we mix it all by hand," Tousey says. "We have fresh spinach in there, some garlic olive oil, simple seasoning salt, pepper, some heavy cream ricotta cheese, and feta cheese. We mix it all by hand every day. Barbecue Chicken is a very hot seller with the college kids."
