MILWAUKEE — La Merenda on National Avenue in Walker's Point could be considered a hidden gem. They're known for their incredible international tapas food. They decided to shut down for a month when the pandemic hit this country.
"We felt we needed to do our duty to flatten the curve," says owner Peter Sandroni. "In doing so and being a busy restaurant, even with curbside, we thought it was important to not expose our staff and our customers to COVID-19 because it is not visible."

The success of the restaurant has been huge for the neighborhood.
"The La Merenda community is huge and it doesn't just include the restaurant itself," Sandroni explains. "It's employees, it's customers, it's vendors, it's the city as a whole, the neighborhood. What we've done is we've helped transform Walkers Point."
