Walt's Sandwich Place will close doors on June 26

Celebrating its third year in business, Walt's Sandwich Place is not your ordinary sub shop.

"We make some awesome sandwiches we usually do a weekly special based on a different country throughout the world, so we have some variety. Pretty much anything you could imagine between two pieces of bread," says Walter Weiberg, owner of Walt's.

Located on Bluemound, neighboring businesses welcomed Walt's.

"We got a lot of business from the medical college and the research park in Wauwatosa, and the zoo's right across the street, so we get a lot of people coming over before they hit the zoo to feed their families," says Walter.

But with COVID-19 closing the Milwaukee Zoo for months and companies keeping their employees at home, Walt's catering business became non-existent. The loss in profits has forced Walter to shut the doors later in June.

"We will be closing down in two weeks, on Friday the 26 is going to be our last day. Because we have lost the majority of our catering business and that was where we pulled most of our revenue from," says Walter.

Not wanting to just shut the doors and throw away the key, Walter announced the closing on Facebook, giving customers a heads up.

"Luckily we have a lot of loyal patrons and they have all come in and done their part to support us," says Walter. "It's been an amazing opportunity to be apart of this community for the past three years, I've enjoyed it immensely. Getting to know all of our customers on a personal level has been awesome for me, and like I said seeing those awsome comments that they met meant a lot."

Opened until June 26, you can grab a bite to eat at Walt's from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
