MILWAUKEE — There's a new taco place in town that is getting a lot of attention. Taco Mike's on Old World 3rd Street makes a pretty awesome taco. They opened in mid-August.
"Back when me and Mike worked at a brunch [restaurant] together," general manager Norberto Pliego recalls. "We got kind of bored and we were making tacos and we had forgotten about one steak that we marinated for a couple of days. We ended up throwing it on the grill and it was one of the greatest things ever."
Mike Holz had always dreamed of owning his own restaurant, but opening a taco spot in the middle of a pandemic?

"Places are closing down but we're opening up," Pliego smiles. "Our style is a little different. Mike and I bring an energy to every single table that's unmatched by any other. We're the yin and the yang. I'm the outstanding personality and that guy can cook anything you can think of. We have 12 different tacos and every single time it comes out perfect."
They marinate the meat for your taco for three days before seasoning and grill it to perfection. One customer on this day had stopped in for five straight days.
"Carne asada is one of our number-one sellers mainly because we marinate it for three days so it marinates before it even hits the grill," Pliego explains. "Even before that, we season it too. Then we cut against the grain to make it nice and tender and it melts in your mouth for every single bite."
