ST. FRANCIS — Along Kinnickinnic Avenue in St. Francis are intricately designed and decorated wedding cakes. The owner of The Cake Lady shop, Cecelia Grade, said she is hoping to bring a sense of normalcy to her clients during this time of uncertainty.

“It takes a lot of energy and that’s why people are feeling sad or defeated. [I'm] just trying to remind my clients you still have each other you still love each other. We just need to figure out what day we are celebrating you,” said Grade.

Grade said some of her brides and grooms have postponed their weddings, with one bride pushing back her big day to next year, but other brides are choosing a creative option.

“What a few people have done, they are still getting married on their date and you know doing an intimate setting, so just a small little cake from me and we are figuring out when in September or October, when there’s opening, when they can have the larger celebration with their families,” said Grade.

She said although times are tough and scary, the most important thing is to trust your vendors and remember the love you have for one another.

“Luckily you have each other during these uncertain times and it kind of strengthens the relationship to kind of go through all this together,” said Grade.

These days, Grade's orders ares are smaller, meaning she is baking for intimate and virtual birthday parties.

“They are going to do a Skype and they just want that small cake to share with the family," said Grade. "It’s nice to have those customers come in and know I’m providing that joy and getting us through with normalcy because birthdays are still happening."

Grade said her schedule is completely open and she is ready to make cookies, cakes and cupcakes for any occasion. For future brides, she is offering to-go cake tastings at home. She is also selling merchandise like shirts online to help generate revenue.

Grade said she truly loves developing a life-long connection with her clients and hopes people continue to support local.
