WAUWATOSA — If taking a bite out of something sweet is something you need to help put a smile on your face during this pandemic, Simma's Bakery on 68th street in Wauwatosa is the place for you.
"Simma's is charming," says the owner, Peggy Carollo. "It's sort of a landmark in Tosa. If you haven't been there it's sort of a destination. Please come out and visit us. We've been here 36 years. You notice that when you come into the bakery. Not only can you buy beautiful pastries or yummy cheesecakes, you can also purchase ice cream party items.
The chunk of business that has been really missing during the pandemic has been the wedding orders. On this day, we did catch a nice couple deciding on a cake for their special day, but that's not been the norm.

“When COVID first hit we were down to zero weddings during our busiest time of year," Carollo says. "Weddings are starting to slowly come back. I've had brides on the phone crying, I've had mothers crying. My heart goes out to all of them. It's such an uncertain time, so you want to make sure you're doing the right thing. Weddings are starting to come back maybe on a smaller scale.”
Business is starting to pick back up after things slowed down because of COVID-19, but it's really hard to stay away from all of this sweet goodness.
"Our cheesecake is a secret recipe, I'm sure a lot of you know that and it's absolutely delicious," Carollo beams. "There's no cheesecake like it and it's nice and light and creamy. It's a favorite of many families. We also carry pastries. I always say they look too pretty to eat but, my gosh, I’ve had all of them and they’re yummy. We have a signature pastry as the bakery which is our Simma's pastry."
