If quarantine has you craving a good cup of coffee, then check out 1848 Coffee in New Berlin.

"I think our coffee is really smooth and has a nice, unique flavor," says Josh Truckenbrod, owner of the coffee shop. "Two coffee's that we have are our coffee street house blend and our national avenue dark roast. You won't get them anywhere else other than us, which is something that we really wanted."

Creating blends you could only find at 1848 Coffee, owners Josh and Jessica quickly went from a portable trailer to a more permanent location.

"We opened the trailer in May of 2018, and about two or three months later we started moving into here," says Josh. "We have our two coffees, that are coffee street and national avenue, and the spot that became available is on the corner of Coffee and National. It was kinda hard to say no."

With their popularity still growing, the pandemic has taken a toll on business. But in true community fashion, 1848 Coffee puts people before profit.

"We've tried to make everyone feel comfortable. If that means not having tables, losing a little bit of money... Losing a little bit of money isn't always a bad thing when it comes to public safety and just trying to look out for each other," says Josh.

Whether it's to get through the day, or maybe the week, the marvelous baristas at 1848 Coffee plan on sticking around.

"As long as the city stays supportive, and our customer base, which blows my mind, stays on the same page, we can keep going. If we don't make money this year or break even, so be it," says Josh.
