Reopening came after careful planning

MILWAUKEE — We're Open is making a special stop inside Glorioso's Italian Market. It's been on Brady Street for 75 years. The doors were closed for three months because of the pandemic.

"That was an easy decision," says general manager Michael Glorioso. "We made it for one reason and one reason only, and that was to keep the safety of our employees and our customers. We didn't just feel like we could turn around and put all of these new protocols in motion quickly, and we just wanted to be as safe as possible."

There's a grocery store, deli, and catering business here. They estimated that they lost $2 million in sales because of the shutdown, but Michael did his homework and wanted to get it right when he re-opened for their customers.

"To get a little bit ahead of the curve in Milwaukee I did a lot of homework," he recalls. "When we shut down I was talking to other Italian grocers that I know throughout the country. During the shutdown, we were able to install all of the floor stickers, one-way flows of traffic, as well as social distancing Plexiglas shields everywhere. We have a professional disinfectant company and sanitation company coming and they do the building every week."
