Getting that caffeine fix during COVID-19

MILWAUKEE — As we all do our part to stay at home and limit the spread of COVID-19, one of the bright spots is that we can still order takeout. The same goes for coffee.

For some of us, it's that first initial smell of coffee brewing that gets us going each morning.

Maybe you're tired of making your coffee, or you want to try something new and support local, either way, Hawthorne Coffee Roasters is open.

"It's just, we couldn't be the gathering place anymore, but we still wanted to provide the conduit for people to caffeinate and stay caffeinated," says owner Steve Hawthorne.

Customers can come into the business on Howell Avenue and order.

The store has its full coffee beverage menu available and they're also selling pounds and growlers full of their cold brew.

Hawthorne is taking extra precautions to keep things clean.

"We tend to stay clean anyway," Hawthorne says. "But we've taken that to a level 11. Every surface, every door handle is getting wiped down and sanitized constantly."

But you can also order that caffeine fix from the comforts of your own home.

"We're doing a lot of call-in orders, online orders and curbside pickups. Those are things we've always wanted to do anyway so we figured out quickly how to make that happen," Hawthorne says.

They're even showing people how to brew coffee at home.

"A lot of people are figuring out how to brew coffee at home so we're selling a lot of our pounds and doing a lot of teaching how to brew coffee on their own."

Hawthorne Coffee Roasters is located at 4177 S Howell Ave in Milwaukee. For more information about store hours and ordering coffee visit their website.
