EAST TROY — If you visit Gus's Drive-In, in East Troy, you better bring your appetite.
"Our heavy Chevy is a half-pound juicy burger and it's huge, and we sell a lot of it. Also, four by fours which is two grilled cheese sandwiches with a half-pound burger in the middle and it's just an amazing sandwich," says Gus Athanasopoulos, co-owner of Gus's Drive-In.

They also serve custard that is Wisconsin through and through.
"Our custard comes from Neenah, Wisconsin, from locally sourced dairy and we run it every day and it's always made fresh," says Gus.
Normally closed four months out of the year, Gus and his wife Jessica, were put to the test when COVID-19 hit the state.
"You know the way that we've been doing things for 18 years, this process that we think we've perfected, was turned on end. Everything that we thought we knew to run our business now had to change seemly overnight," says Jessica Athanasopoulos, co-owner of Gus's Drive-in.
But as a staple for great food and sweet shakes, the sun is still shining on the giant muffler man outside of Gus's.
"It was amazing, we almost couldn't put it into words how many people came out, how emotional it was. Instead of us thanking our customers they were thanking us for being open, thanking us for serving the community. It is such a strange turn of events that we ended up being grateful for each other," says Jessica.
If you aren't in the mood for a burger, Gus's also offers gyros, chicken, and of course Friday fish fries. All of which can be enjoyed outside, and eventually inside the diner.
"We will open our dining room soon, it's just a matter of listening to our customers. That's what great now is we can be guided by them and what they feel comfortable with we'll be comfortable with. We will maintain safety and cleanliness and hope for the best," says Jessica.
