WAUWATOSA — Serving Greek dishes for over a decade, business has been good at Cosmos Cafe.

"It was steady, and then all of a sudden COVID hit and it was kinda like the apocalypse. Everybody was like 'OK, are we going to close, are we going to stay open, how are we going to do this?'" says Helen Benezis-Tselentis, co-owner of Cosmos Cafe.

Operating the family-owned restaurant, Helen and her husband decided to stay open through the pandemic.

"We're doing our best," Helen says. "We've tried so hard to follow every ordinance and guidelines, all the rules to stay safe. To keep my family safe and to keep the customers safe. Everybody's been so understanding."

While the restaurant was limited to carry-out for three months, the community has helped Cosmos survive.

"We are so lucky that we have been supported throughout this whole process. People come in and support the kids at the register, and I just feel very lucky that this community understands that this is a hard time," says Helen.

Now, you can come inside to enjoy a meal or sit on the patio.

"We're very unique in our pita sandwiches," said Helen. "Very fresh, homemade, all of the sauces and Greek specialties are homemade and we are pretty proud of that. So I think the quality of our food stands out."

Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Cosmos Cafe is a taste of Greece in your backyard.
