WAUKESHA COUNTY — This Mother's Day will feel a little different this year with the pandemic, but there are still ways to celebrate mom.

At Waukesha Floral and Greenhouse, there are hundreds of options for you to choose from.

"If you can't be with mom right now, maybe you can put a hanging basket on her patio that says, 'I'm thinking of you,'" says Vice President Marty Loppnow.

The Loppnow family owns what they say is the oldest continuously operating floral business in Waukesha County. The flower shop opened in 1904 and the Loppnow's purchased it in the 70s. So they know a thing or two about getting through hard times.

They really felt the pinch over Easter, when they didn't have the typical orders of large floral arrangement for church services.

But Loppnow says people still ordered bouquets for Easter, Administrative Professional Day, and just because.

"We've had some people send a bunch of flowers to 5 or 7 different people just saying, 'We'll get through this. I can't see you right now, but when we're done we'll have a fish fry and a party,'" said Loppnow.

He says the emotion people get from flowers is special.

"Flowers have a big emotional response from people," Loppnow said. "Color, scent, memory. Maybe grandma planted that flower in their yard and that's going to bring back a memory for you."

You can order curbside or delivery from Waukesha Floral and Greenhouse.

Starting Monday, May 4, you can also walk through their greenhouse. Employees will be wearing masks and they will limit the number of people inside the greenhouse. You'll also notice X's on the floor every six feet for social distancing.

They are open Monday - Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can order online here.
