Four years ago, Karen Krieg took over Canfora Bakery.

"We were blessed, from day one, when we took over the business with the employees. We were blessed, with the community," says Karen.

Keeping the entire staff, Canfora is still the place locals have grown to love. That said, Karen has made some sweet additions.

"In the WeEnergies cookie book that came out this week, we have a soft gingersnap cookie that is featured. That's something that Canfora has not had before," says Karen.

Famous for their bread and rolls, when the pandemic hit, it wasn't just the bakery Karen had to think about.

"When the first stay at home order came out, I got on the phone with every one of our wholesalers and asked if they were staying open or not. Because if we did not produce bread at night, then those communities and locations would not be able to continue, and those businesses would fail," says Karen.

Doing whatever they could to keep themselves and others open, Canfora Bakery now reaps the reward of welcoming back the best customers Karen could ask for.

"Every Sunday, when we are helping four or five hundred people, those folks are very loyal. They come in and they say thank you so much for being here. They understand that they have to wait outside and sometimes they wait as long as 45 minutes just to get in the door," says Karen.

Time well spent to keep businesses open and the community safe.

"They have been tremendous. We can't speak any more highly of the people that walk in the store," says Karen.
