RACINE — Marijuana-related traffic stops have nearly doubled this year compared to last year.
According to Racine County police, the total number of marijuana cases in January 2019 was 40. This year, however, that number shot up to 73.
When it comes to traffic stops on I-94 alone, the numbers have doubled. In 2019, there were 11 cases total in the month of January. This year, that number is 23.
A Lieutenant with Racine County believes Illinois now having recreational marijuana played a factor in these numbers.
