A California woman who was out of town for three weeks came home Friday to find several strangers living in her house.
The homeowner called police when she spotted two unfamiliar vehicles in her driveway. The home's windows were open and trash was scattered around.
When police arrived, they spoke to a woman who said a couple was letting her stay in the garage.
"I thought it was really awkward," neighbor Maria Raya said. "There was no U-Haul truck. There was no furniture. They just moved in there."
Deputies coaxed Casey Bates, 38, out of the home a short time later. During a search of the home, deputies found his wife, Tricia Bates, hiding in a bedroom closet.
