Meet the New Jersey teen who discovered a new planet

Posted

UNION CITY, N.J. — By all accounts, Ramzi Saber appears to be your average 16-year-old boy. But when you talk to him, you soon learn he's far from it.

For the past two years, Saber — a junior at Jose Marti STEM Academy in Union City — has immersed himself with data about a distant star system originally collected by researchers at MIT.

On his own, he made the discovery of a lifetime: a new exoplanet. His teachers validated his work.

His work has already earned the aspiring aerospace engineer 10 awards, including a full scholarship to New Jersey City University.
