U.S. Senator Ron Johnson won re-election to his seat Tuesday night in a victory over incumbent Russ Feingold.

As of 11:13 p.m., Johnson had 52 percent of the vote, while Feingold had 45. 83 percent of the vote had been counted at that time.

Johnson was originally elected to the Senate in 2010, when he defeated Feingold as part of a Tea Party wave that swept the country.

The two candidates fought in a race that many thought would be less competitive due to Donald Trump's unpopularity in the state. Polls leading up to Election Day showed that wasn't the case.
