WASHINGTON COUNTY -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office has released information connected to the fatal accident that shut down parts of I-41 north of Slinger on Friday.
They have determined a 37-year-old Menomonee Falls man was traveling northbound in a passenger car north of County Road K when he crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes. That caused it to strike a semi and continued to travel underneath it before coming to rest.
The semi jackknifed and lost its back axle, coming to rest blocking both southbound lanes and part of one northbound lane.
The Menomonee Falls driver died, while the semi driver was not injured.
Lanes of I-41 impacted by the accident were closed to traffic for just over seven hours, reopening just before 11 p.m.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate.
