MILWAUKEE COUNTY – Drivers rejoice — the ramp that connects I-94 west to I-894 south in the Zoo Interchange is officially open.
The ramp opened just after 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. It was the first ramp to close when construction on the Zoo Interchange started, and after more than three years of construction, it is now the last of the system ramps to open to traffic.
“Roughly about 17,000 vehicles on a daily basis use this ramp prior to us closing that," Mike Pyritz with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said.
"That’s 17,000 vehicles that had to find another way around. So, they’ll all get to come back today and you’ll really see some great improvement this afternoon," he continued.
Construction on the rest of the Zoo Interchange Project is expected to be finished in August.
