SHOREWOOD -- High schoolers in Shorewood have to stop talking and put down their devices for a new class.
It's the first-ever yoga class at Shorewood High School.
"I learned a lot about mindfulness and a lot about myself in this class," said Johnalyn Brzostowski, Shorewood High School junior.
Teacher James Weslaski shared his personal story before he tried yoga.
"I used to struggle with anxiety too and I thought it was something that helped me - yoga was always something that helped me," he said.
For the nearly 40 students taking part for the first time this semester, its working.
"My goal is for them to come here, feel relaxed, feel healthy, feel happy and feel mentally well," said Weslaski
The district also landed a mental health services grant from the Department of Public Instruction. Two therapists will split their time between four schools through 2021. A consultant will also train staff two days a week on important strategies, including how to manage anxiety.
