WAUWATOSA, Wis — A Milwaukee woman is accused of stealing $35,575.05 from a JC Penney in Wauwatosa by Wauwatosa police according to a criminal complaint.
Umeko Dixon was an employee at the JC Penney at 11800 West Burleigh in Wauwatosa. Between March 19 and April 11, 2018, Dixon fraudulently reduced prices of merchandise by as much as 99 percent and shipped many of those orders to her mothers house.
A list analyzed by police shows that Dixon made 58 fraudulent orders in total. Out of those 58 orders, 27 were charged to Dixon's own credit card, 25 were charged to people she knew, and the final two here in her own name.
Three examples of Dixon's fraudulent transactions include:
- Merchandise worth $358.99 only being charged for $2.50.
- Merchandise worth $199.99 only being charged for $1.00.
- Merchandise worth $243.99 only being charged for $2.00.
These were just the successful transactions made by Dixon. JC Penney prevented further loses of $200,979.07 by canceling other orders. In one instance, Dixon tried charging $47,337.07 worth of merchandise for only $3.60, but this transaction was voided.
Dixon now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and/or a maximum fine of $25,000.
