New video is surfacing from inside the minivan involved in a pursuit and hours-long standoff in Oconomowoc Tuesday evening. The video posted to Facebook by the woman inside the vehicle shows the male suspect holding a gun.
It’s that gun that the Waukesha County Sheriff says was waved out the window and caused the first of two officer-involved shootings during the incident.
Employees at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson. which is on Highway 67 right in front of where Tuesday evening’s standoff took place, have watched the video. They were standing at windows and recording video of their own during the standoff, and now know just how dangerous the situation was.
“You really didn't know what was going on. And now that I see and hear all that really went on I’m shocked and it was really a scary situation,” says Marketing Manager Diane Crowley.
Crowley even went outside at one point to take video of the situation and was quickly told to go back inside by a law enforcement officer.
“One thing they did tell us is that we were in the line of fire directly. We didn’t know that til after the fact so it was pretty scary that we had people standing at windows when it could have been more dangerous than we thought” said Crowley.
The Waukesha County Sheriff said Wednesday that tactical officers shot the male suspect when he got out of the van with a gun pointed at the woman he was with. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and the woman was treated for injuries as well. Both are in custody of the Waukesha County Sheriff, and have not been officially identified.
