MILWAUKEE – Drivers, you've been warned! The Wisconsin State Patrol is taking their patrol to the skies.
On Monday, May 7, the Wisconsin State Patrol plans to conduct aerial traffic enforcement along I-94 in Waukesha County. State Patrol aircraft and ground-based officers will be watching for speeders, aggressive or reckless drivers.
“Aircraft serve as a valuable tool to help us identify speeders, aggressive or reckless drivers who compromise the safety of all travelers,” said Captain Tim Carnahan with the State Patrol’s Waukesha Post in a news release. “Our goal is public safety and voluntary compliance with traffic laws, but motorists who make irresponsible decisions should expect to be stopped by law enforcement and potentially cited.”
The Wisconsin State Patrol Office says the specially-equipped State Patrol aircraft use highway markings and a timing device known as VASCAR to determine vehicle speeds.
When pilots detect speeders, aggressive or reckless drivers, they contact ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop.
Aerial enforcement missions are often announced in advance via WisDOT’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
