The adult dog (six months and older) adoption rate is cut in half now through May 29 at the Wisconsin Humane Society - Milwaukee, Ozaukee, and Racine, campuses.
The organization currently has 87 dogs available, which they say is unusually high. Usually, a day and a half is the average stay for dogs on the adoption floor. However, there is a more than dozen dogs who have been at the Humane Society for several weeks, some have even been there for a couple months.
The hope is to inspire people to "consider opening their hearts and homes to a news friend this Memorial Day," according to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
"Our current population isn't a result of a hoarding or seizure situation, and it's not unusual to see slows adoptions during the first nice stretch of weather in Wisconsin," said Angela Speed of the Wisconsin Humane Society. "But we have a LOT of dogs, and we need the community's help in getting these love bugs home."
