A 35-year-old Milwaukee Police officer was shot and killed near 12th and Dakota Wednesday morning after serving more than 17 years with the force.

Police have not yet identified the officer while they work to notify family members.

While we don’t know the officer’s name, Milwaukee Police Association President Shawn Lauda told TODAY’S TMJ4, “He also was a war hero. So he has spent, from my understanding, his entire adult life serving his country and his community."
He was part of a tactical enforcement unit that was serving a search warrant when he was shot.
He was taken to Froedtert Hospital, where he later died.
Police took a 26-year-old suspect into custody. This is the third death of an MPD officer in eight months.
