A man is in custody after allegedly shooting at police officers in West Bend overnight.
West Bend Police responded to a report of gunshots in the 200 block of Edgewood Dr. just before 3:30 Sunday morning. Police say when officers arrived, a 24-year-old man attempted to shoot at them, but the gun misfired.
Leah Disterhaft lives across the street from the suspect's home and says she heard six gunshots early in the morning. Her husband immediately called 911.
"The person on the phone said 'move to the back, move away from the windows, SWAT is on its way," she said.
Soon after, SWAT officers from the Washington County Sheriff's arrived.
"They started giving commands and telling them to come out with their hands up," said Disterhaft.
Police secured the scene for several hours and heard four more gunshots nearby the residence. Roughly five hours later, the suspect surrendered himself to police.
Officers recovered a 45 caliber handgun and a two 12 gauge shotguns from the scene. No one was injured from the incident. The suspect is expected to face attempted homicide charges.
