WEST BEND — A West Bend-based aviation unit comprised of 35 soldiers is scheduled to deploy to the Middle East this summer.

Thirty-five soldiers from the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s G Company, 2nd Battalion, 104th Aviation will mobilize in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve.

These 35 will join hundreds of other Wisconsin National Guard soldiers and airmen deployed overseas.

According to the Wisconsin National Guard, around 200 soldiers are currently serving in Afghanistan, 160 are in Ukraine, around 150 are in the Middle East, and there are more in the horn of Africa.

However, there are fewer troops overseas now than a few months ago.

The Wisconsin National Guard said that in the past two months, over 200 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers have returned home from Afghanistan.
