Marijuana sales in Illinois topped $3.2 million, but some organizations are asking what the real price of legalizing cannabis is.
"We have an industry that is going to make a few individuals a ton of money but the question we have to ask is at what cost to our communities," Will Jones, an advocate with Smart Approaches to Marijuana, a group opposed to marijuana legalization, said.
He cites that hospitalizations in Colorado have skyrocketed by 320 percent since medical marijuana laws were passed in the state back in 2000.
"It can turn into long term mental health issues," Jones said.
However it it is unclear how closely marijuana is related the rise in hospital visits in Colorado.
