WAUKESHA -- Waukesha Police say they are now investigating a murder-suicide after two bodies were found in a townhouse Tuesday afternoon.

Police said in a news release they were called to the house at about 2:14 p.m. near University and Albany to check on the well being of a resident. Neighbors told police they did not see their neighbors for three days.

Waukesha Police responded and was unable to make entry through the front doors. They later discovered the doors were barricaded with furniture. With the assistance of the Waukesha Fire Department, an extended ladder was used to allow officers to gain access through a second-floor bedroom window.

Police say officers then opened a closet door in an upstairs bedroom and located a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. According to police, he was observed holding a small silver handgun in his hand with his finger still on the trigger.

Officers then cleared the residence and located a second deceased man in the basement utility room. Police say the deceased man was partially covered with a sheet and a substantial amount of blood was located around the body.

No other people were located inside the residence.

The deceased have been identified by police as:

  • Alan J. Skarzynski, age 54
  • Dustin L. Congleton age 33

Investigators worked through the night to process the scene. Two .22 caliber handguns and a hunting style knife were recovered on scene.

At this time, police say their investigation is still ongoing, but early indications are that this is a murder-suicide. The relationship between these two men is currently unknown.

No other information has been released at this time.
