RICHFIELD -- Eight students are representing our state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Two of them are from Southeast Wisconsin, including one from Richfield Middle School.

Aryan Kalluvila beat out thousands of other students. He says he spells words easily by using his hands.

"That actually helps me remember it because whenever I'm on stage I actually type," said Kalluvila. "It took me three years like to get to this point."

Aryan secured his spot to go to Washington D.C. later this month by finishing third in our state competition.

The 14-year-old spends at least four hours a day studying for the national competition, which takes place later this month.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee starts May 26. Scripps is the parent company of TODAY'S TMJ4.
